A rite, or ritual is just a formal way of stating to oneself, others, and God, that they have passed through their last stage, and have moved on to the next, hence the term. At the end of the ceremony, the child is sprinkled three times with water, and the ceremony is over. The whole point of the water, as was mentioned earlier, is to symbolise the washing away of sin, concerning the person, or soul, of the child. The fact that the font is at the entrance of the church shows how it will progress in life, through to its final point in the church, after its funeral. Baptism is very important in the church, as, without it, one isnt considered to be a pure member of the congregation. But apart from all that, it too is a progression: from life into either Heaven or Hell (of course, if one has been the best kind of person they could have been, through their life, then Hell isnt even considered). Some Christian denominations, The Roman Catholic Church and Jehovahs Witnesses in particular, believe suicide to be a sin, as it is not the right of any human being to decide whether they or another should live or die, and are refused a Christian burial. In this country, though, the main denomination, the Church of England, governs all Protestants in England to have a Christian burial, unless specified by the subject in his or her will, a written statement, and/or proof from a close re lation. Therefore, regardless of some peoples wishes, they are given a Christian funeral along the lines of the following. Before the funeral, the undertaker will prepare the body, dressing it in the deceaseds favourite clothes, or a shroud, after which, it in a coffin. It is then taken home, or to a chapel of rest, where friends and relatives can go, to pay their last respects. This is known as the wake. On the day of the funeral, itself, the coffin, usually placed with decorative flowers etc, is brought to and from the church in a hearse, or a horse-drawn carriage, taken through to the high altar, at the front of the church, by the pallbearers, and the service begins. Hymns are sung, and prayers said, to introduce the service, before the minister makes a tribute to the deceased. Then those who were close to the deceased will give a short speech, or eulogy, before another sermon is preached, and more prayers and hymns. Finally, the coffin will be taken to the cemetery for burial or cremation, and a final prayer will be said (which is where the famous Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust comes in), before the body is buried or burnt. Afterwards, there is usually a reception, where a toast is made to the deceased. Part Two Marriage (and Divorce?) Let marriage be honourable among all Hebrews 13:4 In Christianity, marriage is sacred. A bond, which can, and should, never be broken. The joining of two persons, who become as one. As the bible says, in 1Corinthians 7:10-11: a wife should not depart from her husbandand a husband should not leave his wife. It clearly states that separation, or even divorce, would be a sin. There are four main points, which Jesus identified, concerning marriage: 1) Adultery is the only grounds for divorce whoever divorces his wife, except on the ground of fornication, and marries another commits adultery. Matthew 19:9 2) The husband is the head of the house, and as head, he should love, care, and respect his wife Let wives be in subjection to their husbandshusbands continue loving your wives, just as Christ also loved the congregation Ephesians 5:23-25 3) Christians should marry only other Christians only in the Lord 1Corinthians 7:39 4) A man is to have only one wife a man will leave his father and mother and he must stick to his wife and they must become one flesh. Genesis 2:24 However, this is interpreted differently, among different Christian denominations. For instance, in the Roman Catholic Church, there are absolutely no grounds for divorce at all, not even adultery gives an excuse for it. If a Roman Catholic does divorce, he is faced with the prospect of excommunication. The same goes for the other three points of marriage. And if he wants to marry again, he isnt permitted to do so in a church. With Jehovahs Witnesses, adultery is a ground for divorce, but the only one, and even then, a husband or wife should be forgiving, and divorce should be treated as a last resort. In the Church of England, two people may not even want to be wed, but they may just want a blessing, therefore being identified as married in the eyes of God and the church. The Greek Orthodox Churchs view is very similar to that of the Roman Catholics, in that marriage is one of the most holy states to be in, and must be viewed as such. Therefore, if a couple divorce, they are seen to be unstable in their faith. Within all reaches of Christianity, though, marriage is seen to be sacred, likened to the relationship between Jesus and the Church. As is written in Ephesians 5:23: a husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation. Therefore, all Christian denominations treat it very seriously. Two people cannot, just on a whim, marry, because that decision will affect the rest of their lives. Therefore, married Christians should be constantly aware of their behaviour around people of the opposite sex, and their spouse. Firstly, being in mind of what marriage is about, people should choose carefully, before marriage, deciding if they truly love the other person enough to live with them, happily, for the rest of their lives. Next, during marriage, they should be aware that every day, they must be in mind of their partner, and how what they do will affect them (Im thinking primarily of adultery, but even flirting, if the spouse doesnt like it, is testing the waters of the r elationship). Finally, if one is considering divorce, Christianity strongly encourages the person to look at their partner in the most positive light possible, and think about what made them want to marry them in the first place. At the end of the day, though, some teachings say, it is ultimately the individuals choice, but even then, it does affect the spouse. Most denominations, though, do not approve of, or look well on, divorce at all. Purely for the reason that Jesus gave only one reason for it: adultery something which, if you really loved your partner, you wouldnt even dream of doing anyway. In short, divorce is wrong, unscriptural, and should only be treated as a last resort. Part Three Rites of Passage: Only for Believers? Not everyone saying to me Lord, Lord will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. Matthew 7:21 So, should those who are unbelievers, or heathens, be allowed Christian ceremonies? Can they be allowed to have Christian rites performed for them, despite never going to church, or being involved with the church, or, as is more the case now, any church at all? Well, this, again, is not easy to answer. Jesus did say that the message of Christianity should be preached to all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, so from that, one can argue that Jesus taught to embrace those outside Christianity. However, Jesus also said, in the case of marriage, that Christians should marry only other Christians. Again, though, shifting the balance once more, baptism is not only applied to Christian babies. There is an account in Acts chapter 8, which tells of an Ethiopian eunuch, who is baptised there n the spot, in a nearby body of water, so one, again, could argue that anyone can enter the religion, and many people do convert to Christianity, having been Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, and even Pagans, so, in that sense, there is no limitation. The same goes for death (especially in this country, as has been explained above): if one has realised that theyve lived a sinful life, they can make one last repentance, before dying. In that sense, through their death, theyve been baptised, as it were. I suppose, though, really, its down to the individual, and what s/he really feels. Personally, I wouldnt bother with the fuss of paying for a church to get married in, unless I really wanted to get married in one, and I had agreed with my fiancà ¯Ã‚ ¿Ã‚ ½e, what we wanted to do. Some people only do things to please others, or for ceremonial sake, either case, with no real personal feeling or regard, and I feel that this makes for unhappy circumstances. Unless a person is completely sure of what they are doing, should they decide that they want to do it at all, or in a Christian place of worship. If one strongly believes in Christianity, as Jesus would say, if his heart is in it, then that person is a Christian, whether baptised or not. But that is only one persons viewpoint, which is why the issue becomes a tricky one, as Christianity is dealing with millions of peoples, and not just one, viewpoints.

Chaucer’s Use of â€Å"Tender† in Troilus and Criseyde Chaucer is known for his talent at pushing his readers to step outside their preconceived notions regarding genre, characters, and themes. In addition to this, Chaucer uses words with double meanings to create ambiguity and depth throughout his works. Troilus and Criseyde is no different in this respect. Throughout Troilus and Criseyde, Chaucer uses the word tendre several times, using its various meanings to make the reader question the intentions of the characters. According to the Middle English Dictionary, the adjective form of tendre has seven different meanings in medieval texts. Chaucer employs all but two of those meanings in Troilus and Criseyde. The meanings that Chaucer employs are as follows: Immature, young; unsophisticated, innocent, naÃÆ' ¯ve; also unblemished, spotless; Physically sensitive, esp. to pain; susceptible to injury, vulnerable;easily injured, fragile; Of a plant, part of a plant: fresh, new-grown; not hardy, delicate; Physically weak; debilitated, enfeebled, morally week, unable to resist temptation; also impressionable; Sorrowful, heartfelt; piteous, painful, touching; (b) easily moved; of the heart: compassionate, sympathetic (207-209). Chaucer uses the adjective form of tendre five times in Troilus and Criseyde, and employs its various meanings throughout the text. Pandarus is the first to use the word in Book II: his stream of thought during a discussion with Criseyde includes the word. He thinks, If I my tale endite/Aught harde, or make a proces any whyle,/ She shal no savour have therin but lite,/ And trowe I wolde hire in my wil bigyle;/For tender wittes wenen al be wyle/ Theras thei kan nought pleynly understonde; Forthi hire wit to serven wol I fonde (267-273). Here, it seems that Chaucer wants the reader to see the word tendre as meaning naÃÆ' ¯ve, since Pandaruss quote seems to indicate that she is too simple-minded to understand some things. However, this quote is one instance in the text where Chaucer relies on the multiple meanings of the word to create depth. It is important to remember that tender can also mean impressionable, as seen in the fourth definition (above). Because it is Pandarus, who co ntinually pressures Criseyde into action towards Troilus, who uses the word, it seems likely that Chaucer intends the term to be taken both ways. Additional ambiguity surrounding this particular use of the word is that tender in the sense of naivete also indicates youth and innocence (as seen in the first definition listed above). Chaucer wants the reader to consider Criseyde in relation to both of these terms. She is a widow, but is she is also young. She is the woman who cheats on Troilus and breaks his heart, but she is also innocent. Chaucer uses an ambiguous term to make the reader examine Criseydes character more closely. Pandarus also uses the word in Book III, during a discussion with Criseyde. Criseyde wants him to give Troilus a ring on her behalf, to which Pandarus replies, This [man] is so gentil and so tendre of herte/ That with his doeth he wol his sorwes wreke (904-905). The reader can interpret this word according to both the second and fifth meanings listed above. Describing Troilus as tenderhearted suggests that he is vulnerable, sorrowful, or painful (207-209). However, because it is Pandarus (who also pressures Troilus into action throughout the text) who speaks the phrase, Chaucer intends the reader to see the double meaning of the word and think of Troilus as impressionable, as well. The next two uses of the word tender are fairly straightforward, and do not rely on multiple meanings. Criseyde uses the term when she cries to herself upon realizing that she will be exchanged for Antenor. She asks, How shal youre tendre herte this sustene? (795). Here, the word is interpreted as meaning vulnerable. The fourth use of the word occurs in the opening of Book V: the narrator uses it in relation to a plant, saying, and Zepherus as ofte/ Ibrought ayeyn the tendre leves grene (10-11). The fifth and final use of the word occurs in Book V, during the narrators description of Crisyede: Tendre-hearted, slydynge of corage;/ But trewely, I kan nat telle hire age (825-826). Here, Chaucer again plays off the various meanings of tendre, using it to signify both naÃÆ' ¯vete and compassion. However, because he follows the phrase with a reference to her age, he wants the reader to note that the term can also indicate youth. Chaucer uses the multiple meanings of the word tendre throughout Troilus and Criseyde to add depth to the characters. Though sometimes he intends the word to be interpreted in a straightforward fashion, in at least three instances he urges the reader to take into account the varying meanings of the word. The medieval definitions of the terms as naÃÆ' ¯ve, young, sensitive, fresh in relation to plants, and sorrowful offer insight into Chaucers style and intentions.

Mohammed Emwazi joined â€Å"London Boys† that was a criminal gang in north-west London that engaged in violent robberies to support the extremists, Al-Shabaab. Recently, extremists have been associating with organized criminal gangs like the London Boys. Emwazi grew up in North London and turned to drugs, gangs, and violence to escape from alienation that young Muslims experienced in London. Indeed, Muslim prison population has been increasing where 27 % of all prisoners in London are Muslims. Emwazi listened to radical preachers and attended their rallies that helped him to understand his Islamic identity. Radical Islam lures young Muslims since it creates a sense of brotherhood. Joining the criminal gangs and later the radical Islamist group, ISIS helped Emwazi and like-minded people to overcome tribal differences and escape uncertainty. Apparently, the article, Jihadi John and London's culture of gang violence establish what is pushing and drawing young Muslims in London into joining ISIS. The fractured environments that young Muslims live in push young Muslims in London into joining ISIS. The gang experiences that young Muslims gain in living in areas with high levels of shootings, drug wars, and gang violence derives the courage to join and support the activities of ISIS. Television Violence The media is everywhere in our lives. From billboards to SMS text messaging on cell phones, we cannot escape the media and its impact on daily life. Of the many impacts, television violence and the influence it has on youth is one of the most debated topics. Many experts, including some from the University of California, Santa Barbra, say that the amount and type of violence viewed results in violent actions performed by youth of all ages and violence continually affects them throughout their lives. Others are more skeptical and argue that the media is not the sole cause of youth violence; they believe that there are many other factors that contribute to the violent behaviors of youth. They see the condition more as a mixture of different situations that cause violence in youth, violence on television being just one of the factors. However, both sides of the argument understand that each individual is a separate situation and reacts differently to the violence portrayed. This essay will inform the reader of the claims both sides formulate to defend their argument and allow the reader to determine their own conclusion. I believe in the â€Å"Two Men and a Truck† case study, the motivational theory that Mrs. Sheets’ uses is the goal setting theory. Her initial goal was to help support her sons’ part-time jobs. She created a marketing campaign, although she may not have seen it as such, by designing the stick figure drawing that is still being used today in the company. As a single mother, she did not want to turn away the phone calls that continued to be received, even after her sons went away to college and therefore, she purchased an inexpensive truck and hired two workers to maintain the business operations. Mrs. Sheets expanded the company and set out a goal of being the most customer-friendly moving company. To assist with this goal, she arranged trainings for her employees, and franchisee employees, where they learn basic customer service tools and how to be a high-functioning team member. These tools include how to properly answer the phone and to always shake the customer’s hand when the work is completed. She also asks employees to complete a survey card so the organization can use the feedback as coaching opportunities. All of these tools helped Mrs.  Sheets’ company become one of the most successful moving companies in the area. In the Siemens case study, the motivational theory that is described is Management by objectives. Mr. Kleinfield took over a Siemens unit in 1998 and immediately requested a change in work shifts, including working weekends. The employees were shocked by what was being requested but also recognized that due to a competitor, their jobs were in jeopardy from a lack of production. Mr. Kleinfield expressed an interest in the work being performed by being in the factory and asking questions related to the operations. This interest helped win over the employees and with the new schedules, production times were cut from six weeks to one. Although the employees did not know what was going on, Mr. Kleinfield recognized what the ultimate goal of the production facility was and put a plan into action as soon as he took it over to make it a success. By demonstrating this leadership, he ultimately was offered the CEO position, even though he never worked in any facility for very long, especially as a Consultant, but did have experience in every department that was associated with Siemens.
